Insurance Promotion — The Benefits Bridge

Fellow Insurance Promotion Chairman — the short version

The Knights of Columbus is, among everything else, one of North America's most highly rated insurers — and it exists because Fr. McGivney wanted widows and orphans protected. Your chair makes sure the council's members actually know what their membership entitles their families to. You don't sell anything; you open doors.

What the Insurance Promotion chair actually is

  1. Liaison to the council's Field Agent — you're his point of contact for meeting time, member introductions, and event scheduling.
  2. Host of Fraternal Benefits Nights — the Order's benefit-education events. These matter beyond education: attendance at qualifying benefit events feeds the Founders' Award, one of Star Council's four legs verify.
  3. Voice for the fraternal mission — two minutes at a meeting on what membership means for a member's family: insurance eligibility, fraternal benefits, survivor support.
  4. New-member connector — every new Knight should hear, within his first months, that a no-obligation conversation with the Field Agent is part of what he joined.

What a strong year looks like

  • Two benefit events on the calendar by September. The Founders' Award needs them; booking the Field Agent early gets the good dates.
  • The agent gets five minutes, not a footnote. A standing slot at meetings — brief, predictable — keeps the fraternal mission visible without turning meetings into seminars.
  • Widows and beneficiaries are remembered. The chair historically watches that members' families know about survivor benefits when a Brother dies. Coordinate with the FS on bereavement contact.

Common pitfalls

  • Treating insurance as a sales interruption. It's the Order's founding purpose; frame it that way and members listen.
  • Zero benefit events. The most common Founders' Award failure is simply never scheduling them.
  • No Field Agent relationship. If you don't know your agent's name by August, the year is already behind.

One more thing

Fr. McGivney founded the Order at a kitchen table with a widow facing destitution. Every benefits night you schedule is the unbroken continuation of that table.
